Robert Guinan captures the grittier edge of Chicago in his sketchy, muted pieces. Sketchbook in tow, Guinan frequented downtrodden Chicago bars and lounges in pursuit of artistic inspiration. He represents people at their sincerest-happy, down, celebrating, wallowing. He learned to draw quickly because his subjects could easily leave, a technique that lends Guinan's compositions their unmistakable mood and appeal.
