Paper
as Art Form
March 16 -- mid April, 2007Tuccillo’s
sculpture pays tribute to the detailed metalwork and ornament of sewer
grates and manhole covers.
He begins by making a mold directly off of the street, then casts the
objects in paper.
The rust of stained concrete, the gritty tar of asphalt is achieved with
acrylic paint.
Tuccillo’s work inspires respect for the painstaking process of
its creation – the rebirth of paper.

The
works originate from urethane mold impressions taken directly from the
ground,
then cast in paper pulp, dried, mounted to canvas and wood supports, and
painted to
re-create and celebrate the look of the original.
