Lithuanian born artist Renata Palubinskas paints children caught between
innocence and experience. A divine light opens in the sky above them
as they suffer the small tortures of earthly existence. Animals take
on an impish quality – sharp-toothed bunnies pull at the hem of a dress,
pigs and lambs wield pitchforks and axes. Palubinskas’s training
as a museum conservator gives her work a sense of precision – these
bizarre images are remarkably believable.
